As the end of your tenancy agreement nears, you are faced with a decision: Renew your lease or search for a new place to call home?

The choice to renew your lease involves a thorough evaluation of various factors such as the neighbourhood, rental unit and its amenities, rental rate and more. The choice between renewing your lease and staying put or searching for a new living arrangement is a significant one and should not be made lightly.

1. Familiarity

One of the benefits is you don’t have to move. Moving to a new place can be an overwhelming experience, with the process of searching for a new rental unit, visiting listings, and deciding on a new home can be time-consuming. Once you have found a new place, packing your belongings, arranging for movers, and settling into your new home can add further stress and uncertainty to the moving process.

By renewing your tenancy, you can avoid all of these costs and heacheads. You can continue living in a familiar environment and maintain the sense of community that you’ve built.

2. Cost Savings

Aside from the costs of moving, you can also save money. Staying in your current rental unit means that you won't have to pay the security deposit,  which is required for securing a new rental home or apartment. This can save you a significant amount of money upfront. If you haven’t already used Zero Deposit, you might need to pay a double deposit while waiting to get back your deposit from the previous landlord. 

Furthermore, renewing your tenancy can also offer financial benefits. Moving can be expensive, with costs such as movers, deposits, and new furnishings adding up quickly. By renewing your tenancy, you can avoid these costs and continue to enjoy a more stable financial situation. For example, if you’ve been living in your current home for a while, you may have made some improvements or upgrades that would be expensive to duplicate if you had to move.

3. Stability & Security

Renewing your lease can provide consistency and stability in your life by allowing you to continue living in your current rental. Moving to a new place involves adjusting to new routines, neighbourhood, and potentially new roommates or neighbours. This can be stressful and overwhelming. Staying in your current rental, where you have established a routine and a sense of familiarity, can provide a safe and stable option. If what you have is working for you, there may not be a good reason to change. Well, just like the old saying—if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

When faced with the decision of whether to renew your tenancy or find a new place to live, there is a lot to consider. Such as familiarity with the house, saving money and staying in your current rental can provide a sense of consistency and stability, allowing you to continue building roots in a location that you already know and love. It saves you time, money and energy!

Your Zero Deposit Program subscription ending soon? Well, don’t go out; renew it online! Your BlueDuck can be renewed along with your tenancy renewal. 

A reminder 90 days before your policy expires, you can renew your coverage anytime before your tenancy is due, as the coverage period will be based on your tenancy date. Each resubscribe will get a surprise reward. Remember to check your email ;)  

Here’s how you can manually renew/ resubscribe:

Step 1: Log into your BD account

Step 2: Tenant Profiling

  

Step 3: Fill in your renewal rental details

Once you’ve filled in the previous information, choose the TENANT PROFILE ONLY and fill in your renewal details.

Step 4: Make Payment

Once all details are ready, click SUBMIT, which will lead to the FPX page! It’s the same as how you usually choose to pay in an e-commerce platform via FPX online banking ;)

Step 5: TA-DA, Done!

We will contact you and your agent!

It's a great way to honor your deal with the landlord, as no deposits were made when you moved in. It’s a great show of confidentiality of how responsible a tenant you are. Plus, having a renewed policy gives you the peace of mind you deserve.

The Chinese New Year was probably the most beautiful, colourful, and significant of all the traditional holidays. The Chinese used this occasion to congratulate one another and themselves on making it through another year, to say goodbye to the previous one and welcome the new one. 

There are several traditions associated with Chinese New Year, going from little domestic ceremonies to significant public celebrations. Every little detail and tradition now plays a significant and essential role in Chinese culture.

 Here are some CNY traditions:

1. Cleaning: A week before the New Year, families usually gather together to clean their homes thoroughly to symbolically sweep away bad luck and make room for good luck.

2. Decorations: Red decorations, such as lanterns, banners, and posters, are used to decorate homes and streets. The colour red is considered lucky in Chinese culture and is believed to ward off evil spirits.

3. New Year's Eve dinner: A family reunion dinner is typically held on New Year's Eve where they will have Yee Sang. Yee Sang is a salad made with different vegetables, salmon, dumpling wrappers and seasoned with hoisin sauce and other condiments. The salad in itself is delicious, but it is also part of a ritual that families love. The salad plate is placed on the middle of the table and everyone is supposed to take their chopsticks and toss it up in the air. People will try to toss it as high as possible to attract good fortune. So toss it as high as you canlah to attract fortunes 😂

4. Angpao: Everyone loves angpao. Well, will you be receiving the angpao or giving the angpao? Usually married adults give red envelopes filled with money to unmarried children and teenagers as gifts, which is a way to give blessings and good luck.

5. Lion and dragon dance: Lion and dragon dances, which are performed by teams of dancers wearing elaborate lion or dragon costumes, are a traditional and colourful way to celebrate Chinese New Year.

6. Giving visits: People will visit their families, friends and neighbours to exchange greetings and good wishes during Chinese New Year. Another good thing for the singles, kids are more ANGPAO 😂

The rabbit is the symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese Culture, thus 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope! Overall Chinese New Year is a time for families to come together, to celebrate, and to reflect on the past year while looking forward to the new one.

5. Finally make payment via your online banking

          

A tenant profile is a passport to enter your desired home. With that you get to retrieve your CTOS report. CTOS’ core function is to collect and process credit information about individuals’ and businesses’ borrowings and repayments and provide this information to credit grantors. It typically includes information about the tenant's employment, income, and credit history.

A healthy credit score shows how responsible and diligent you are about paying your bills, which significantly reflects your reputation as a borrower (tenant). A bad credit score would indicate a poor payment record, and few banks and lenders would take the risk of doing business with you if your credit score is on the low side

Well, do you have a healthy score? When was the last time you checked your credibility?
